Hi! I'm Julianne Simson, New York's Budget Blogger.
I applied to every scholarship under the sun during my senior year of high school so I could afford to attend college. I ended up attending both college and grad school for free (!!!). After graduating with my Masters, I left my political consulting job in Florida and moved to New York, only to find out my job offer here had fallen through. After many months of job searching and running out of savings, I made it my mission to remain afloat and find happiness in my new home. The result? A war chest full of the best-kept secrets for ballin’ on a budget: How To Be Broke In New York was born!
After finding a full-time job, I left my steady income last summer to become even more broke. I am now a second-year law student and am currently working two summer legal internships. (And if you ever doubted the power of Instagram, networking in my DMs led to one of my internships!). This upcoming school year, I will be working in the New York Attorney General's Office while also serving as a Staff Editor for the #2 legal journal on Conflict Resolution in the world. Unlike my bank account, my hands are FULL!
Here, you’ll find some of my acquired ~wisdom~ for enjoying life in New York without being rich or famous, such as some of the best ways to work out for free, wine & dine on the low, and get involved with your community.
If you haven't yet, drop a note below to say hi and tell me a bit about yourself!
Just like you and me, this website is a work in progress.
